8/2/1999 Area 9 Welcomes Three New Faces
The hallways of area 9 have been echoing recently with the sounds of hand trucks, box cutters, hearty handshakes that herald several new arrivals. Postdoctoral fellow and recently minted Ph.D. Charan Ranganath joins us from Northwestern University, where his research with Ken Paller focused on electrophysiological correlates of long term memory. For an example of his recent work, see Ranganath C, and Paller KA (1999). Frontal brain potentials during recognition are modulated by requirements to retrieve perceptual detail. Neuron, 22, 605-613. Postdoctoral fellow Eric Schumacher, representing the second half of our midwestern infusion, hails from the University of Michigan, where his work with David Meyer focused on executive control of multiple task performance. See an example of his recent work at Schumacher et al. (1999). Concurrent response-selection processes in dual-task performance: evidence for adaptive executive control of task scheduling. Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 25, 791-815. Research technician Daniel Caggiano joins us after having spent a year teaching English at a rural Japanese middle school. Institution of a new, sterner disciplinary policy governing interlab behavior is expected imminently.
